Oh, um, hi? This is Keyleth. Are you actually looking for me? Really?
I mean, um. Leave a message and I'll . . . maybe get back to you?
I don't know how this is supposed to work! I --
*beep*
I have no new characters this term, just one returning (again) alum, but speaking of returning alums I believe we have a couple in our player ranks this semester, so this is mostly for their benefit.
. . . also for my need to play with gifs and throw in gratuitous YouTube links. Mostly that, let's be real. Plus it's fun to see exactly how many recurring tropes I end up with. Or terrifying. Maybe both.
( Keyleth of the Air Ashari: Sometimes it's hard being a prodigy, because then you just grow up to be a regular adult. )
( Beauregard Lionett: My whole life was dictated by establishment that I didn't have a whole lot of control over. )
And then, because I have the very hilariously specific market on obnoxious rich-kid smartass lesbians of color who like to punch things cornered and she's back on island this semesterand okay fine half the point of this infopost was so I could make this joke though honestly it was slightly funnier a couple of weeks ago before Beau's last name got established . . .
( Kennedy: You know how to use that? Since I was eight. )
( Éponine Thénardier: I'm not the daughter of a dog, but the daughter of a wolf. )
And then there's the alumni.
( Peebee: The Milky Way was so been-there done-that. )
( Cosette Fauchelevent: I am going to carry you off. If necessary, I will use force. )
( Tahiri Veila: I've been broken . . . Every time you break, outside forces can shape you. )
And finally . . .
( Me: Insert witty quote here. )

Room 308, Tuesday Afternoon
Jul. 23rd, 2019 09:25 amOne minute she'd been napping, curled up in the fork of a couple of sturdy branches near the top of a tree in the preserve, and the next she'd been on the ground, much smaller and much less quadrupedal and -- oh, finally, she was half-elf-shaped again.
Fully clothed, luckily, since this whole incident had been the result of a Wild Shape that had just gotten stuck for a week somehow, but that didn't mean that Keyleth was any less mortified about it all. She'd been doing this since she was barely old enough to walk! It was as easy as breathing to her -- how could she possibly have messed it up this badly and not be able to figure out what she'd done wrong? This was not very great for her already tenuous self-confidence, to put it mildly.
So she hurried back up to the dorms and spent about an hour in the shower and another twenty minutes brushing her teeth (actually living as a tiger for a whole week was not great on the hygiene front from her perspective), then immediately went back to her room and crawled under the covers of her bed where she could just hide for a while. And have a good full blown crisis about whether this meant she was a total failure as a druid and that her parents' trust in her capabilities was completely misplaced.
[OOC: Door closed, post open!]

OOC: Availability Post of Lemmingness
Jul. 17th, 2019 02:02 pmI mean, y'all know how this goes by now, and I don't even really have to post this, but
firstofitskind did so now I just want to be a lemming about it.
Iiiiiii am heading down to San Diego tonight, to spend the next few days reverting to terrible eating habits, camping out all damn day Saturday to get good seats for the Critical Role panel, and trying really hard not to buy like fifty dice this year.
Kiki here is stuck in Minxie form and hanging out with
legionqueen and Camden because the Preserve is now just a Big Cat Hangout, Beauregard is a wee greyhound puppy in the care of
solarhippie, who has modding rights, Éponine is around but quiet, and Billy . . . exists. I swear. He's probably bouncing between Fandom and Philadelphia a lot this summer, tbh, so if I forget to sign him into classes this week . . . he probably got distracted fixing up the Rock of Eternity with his siblings so it's even more of a cool hangout.

The Preserve, Tuesday Afternoon
Jul. 16th, 2019 06:23 pm. . . you know, turning into an animal was nothing new for Keyleth; she'd been doing that since she was little.
It was just the part where she'd done it this morning, and she should have reverted back by now because she shouldn't be able to hold Wild Shape this long, but she hadn't. That was the issue. Because she'd been trying to change back and it just. Wasn't happening. She'd been a tiger since just after breakfast, and it had been hours, and she was still a tiger.
And that was kind of embarrassing too, somehow having lost control of a skill she'd had almost her entire life, so . . . Keyleth was just going to hide out here in the preserve until she could figure this out, or it ended on its own, or something. It was fine. She liked it out here.
It was fine, really.
[OOC: Couldn't just turn one of my Exandrian girls into an animal, could I now? Poor Kiki's stuck this way until I get home from SDCC, naturally.]

The air just felt clearer today; Keyleth could tell as much as soon as she woke up.
This was, apparently, a huge enough relief that she got out of bed, got dressed, and went straight out to the preserve to just . . . well, get some fresh air. Being out here helped her ground herself again after the awkwardness and confusion of the week, on top of that, and she was taking her time, stopping to reach out and touch the life energy of a tree here or a flower there, or saying hello to a passing bird.
Which was when the dagger whistled past her ear, embedding itself neatly -- if not terribly deeply -- into a tree several feet in front of her.
"Gah!" yelped Keyleth, spinning to face in the direction she was fairly sure the dagger had come from. "Watch where you're throwing things, you --"
The rest of the sentence faltered and stumbled to a halt, because there was something uncannily familiar in the grin of the twelve-year-old girl who stood there, wrapped in a dark cloak with a ruff of what looked like raven feathers.
"Um . . ."
[OOC: For . . . me, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to hell for this. :D]

Because Keyleth here needs one, and my original infopost for Beauregard was tragically short on gifs, plus I've gotten a little more lore drop for her since; also because I felt like giving a quick overview of their canon.
. . . or, you know, just posting a bunch of gifs. A bunch. No seriously, there's a lot of gifs here.
( CR: Take a chance, roll the dice. )
( Keyleth: the awkward dorky druid )
( Beauregard: the angry asshole monk )

As for Peebee (
onefootoutthedoor), Éponine (
filleauloup), and the rest of my alumni, well, nothing's really changed there, and as for me, I still apologize for my slowness during weekdays, when I'm limited to sneaking pings from my phone, or at nights and on weekends when I got distracted by a video game or am off playing D&D or something.
